School Election 2020 Bond

On May 5, 2020, Garden City residents will have the opportunity to vote on a bond proposal millage that would generate $50 million for facility improvements for the Garden City Public Schools. Passage would result in an additional 1.65 mills over last year's millage levy to be paid back over 26 years. GCTV's Dan York spoke with Derek Fisher, the Superintendent of the GC Schools and Drew McMechan, Chief Financial Officer about what the school district is proposing.

Based on the information available to Garden City at this time and per the instructions from the Michigan Secretary of State’s office, all registered voters in Garden City will receive an absentee ballot application for the May 5, 2020 election. The application will include postage to return the application to receive an absentee ballot.

In accordance with Governor Whitmer’s Executive Order #2020-27, the Tuesday, May 5, 2020 Garden City Public Schools Election will be conducted only by mail.

City Hall will be open on Election Day as a consolidated precinct for voters that need assistance with their ballot or would like to vote in person.
City Hall will be open to the public from 7:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 5, 2020 for voting purposes.

Additionally, City Hall will be open to the public from 7:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 2, 2020 for the purposes of processing absent voter applications and ballots.

An application for a ballot has been sent to your home, if you are a registered voter. If you would like to vote in the election, return the postage paid application and a ballot will be prepared and sent to your home.
Fill out the ballot, sign the inner envelope and return the postage paid envelope City Clerk and your vote will be counted!! All postage is paid under this Executive Order.
